Alison is a skilled therapist with many years of experience helping her clients effectively manage and overcome a diverse array of psychological conditions. Alison offers treatment and counselling for a broad array of disorders and common mental health conditions.
Counselling and therapy services at Alison McClymont Psychotherapy adopt a multi-model approach, as a UK accredited psycho-dynamic therapist with additional training in EMDR and CBT, Alison will work with you and your individual needs to help find the appropriate treatment plan for you and your goals.
As a specialist in both Post traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) Alison is highly skilled in helping clients with a history of interpersonal trauma overcome their previous experiences and go on to lead more fulfilling and emotionally healthier lives, free from symptoms such as nightmares, flashbacks, and emotional instability.
Sessions are conducted at the clients own pace, and for a duration that feels appropriate and feasible for their situation and needs. All sessions will be conducted in a professional and non-judgmental manner, and Alison adheres to the ethical codes of conduct as stipulated by the British Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Dr Alison McClymont is a psychologist with 10 year’s experience working in child and adolescent mental health settings and human rights organisations. An English graduate of University of Leeds, Alison has two further Masters degrees in Creative Arts therapy from Roehampton University, and Psychology from Manchester University, and is currently completing a PhD in Clinical Psychology. Her PhD research focused on the clinical efficacy of trauma recovery programs for trafficking victims in Asia in collaboration with Hagar International, International Justice Mission and Ratanak. Alison is accredited by the UK Health Care and Professions Council as an arts therapist and served as a guest lecturer at Hong Kong University’s professional training for Creative Arts therapists, and a clinical supervisor for Masters of Counselling trainees at Monash University. Alison’s previous work includes running a national trauma recovery programme for refugee children (Hong Kong), and various roles within the NHS and NGOs specialising in acute trauma. Alison runs a successful private practice, and is currently Chair of Community Engagement for Avenues School in Sao Paulo focusing on the schools impact investing within favela communities, alongside an advisory role for anti-trafficking charity: Ellas (UK). Alison also works as content consultant for international toy brand- Yumme Play for their imaginative play line: Wonderhats.
